How Brands Use Interactive Exhibition Solutions To Immerse Customers

When a brand has a booth at an exhibition and is showcasing a product or a service, they are often competing with several other brands to get the audience's attention. This isn't an easy task, as according to a 2024 study, the average attention span is barely 47 seconds; as such, brands need to create an experience that can quickly capture the audience’s attention and get them interested in their campaign. This is why more and more businesses are starting to use interactive exhibition solutions.

What are Interactive Exhibition Solutions?

Interactive Exhibition solutions, as the name suggests, are exhibitions that make use of interactive digital technology to turn them into an experience where the audience can actively participate. Traditionally, during exhibitions, information is presented to the audience in a way where they have to passively consume it; for example, a video would play, or a presentation would be shown. These are often not as effective as it requires the audience to already be interested in the brand's products or services to want to sit through a presentation to learn more about them. However, when an interactive exhibition solution is used, the information can be provided in a way that allows the audience to actually interact or engage with the experience. This could be achieved through touchscreens, movement, voice, or gesture capture, augmented reality, virtual environments, interactive projections, and other technologies.

For example, in The Strong National Museum of Play, one of the attractions allows children to draw a fish on a drawing sheet and scan it. The scanned image then travels through a pipe and appears on the connected screen, swimming with other creations and fish. Here, a child gets to interact with the experience as the fish or creature they draw gets teleported to the screen and comes to life. Thus, kids get to have a fun experience with the interactive exhibition.

What Technologies are Used in Interactive Exhibition Solutions?

Touchscreen Displays

Touchscreen displays are some of the oldest and most user-friendly interactive solutions that exhibitions can use. All the user has to do is touch the display and interact with the user interface to access the contents of the experience. These screens are capable of letting the users explore maps, timelines, videos, statistics, product information, archives, and other content. The best part is that, unlike a video, the user has full control of the pace at which they explore the content.

Augmented Reality (AR)

immersive AUGMENTED REALITY

Augmented Reality, or AR, is a technology that brings digital content to the real world with the help of smartphones, tablets, AR glasses, kiosks, or other specialized installations. Thus, the user's environment stays the same, while virtual content is added to it to create a fun and unique experience. Some of the most popular examples of AR apps include Pokémon GO, where players can capture Pokémon on their phone that they find in the real world, or social media apps like Snapchat or Instagram where they could play with face filters. Why AR is good for interactive exhibitions is that there are several different types of it, like web-based AR, app-based AR, marker-based or markerless AR, and more. Thus, it makes the experience accommodating for all sizes of audience.

Virtual Reality (VR)

Virtual Reality, or VR, is a technology that simulates a 3D environment, which is intended to be immersive enough to give its user the feeling of being in a different place. It is a digital or "virtual" simulation made to take the user to another "reality". This is often achieved using headsets; physically, the user is where they are when wearing the headset. Virtually, they get teleported to a different space or dimension. Since the main goal of this technology is immersion, it is up to the brand to decide the approach, like creating something hyper-realistic or something unique that the user hasn't seen before. As long as the user stays engaged, it has achieved its purpose.

Holographic Installations

Holographic installations offer advanced visualization by taking regular 2D content and creating an illusion by presenting it as something three-dimensional within a confined physical space. This technology makes use of different projection techniques that play with light, display, and 3D rendering to create depth and give life to the content while improving the audience's viewing experience. What makes them perfect for exhibitions is that they are compatible with interactive technologies like touchscreens, motion sensors & gesture controls. Thus, audiences of different sizes can interact with it and change how the holographic illusion performs.

IoT Solutions

Iot and Custom Solutions

IoT or Internet of Things solutions make use of various kinds of connected devices, sensors, smart hardware, and software to create immersive experiences. They allow real-time communication between physical devices and digital systems. Their main purpose is to futurize existing technology and give the audience a memorable experience, which makes them an excellent choice for exhibitions.

How Our Client Used Interactive Exhibition Solutions

Presenter explains the JioBrain AI network operations demo to expo visitors

Jio - India Mobile Congress

For the 2024 edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC), Reliance Jio partnered with Ink In Caps to create an interactive experience to present their groundbreaking AI model, JioBrain, and their 5G Intelligent Village initiative. The goal was to create memorable interactions that would not only help visitors genuinely understand the initiative but also retain them in the process.

For JioBrain, we designed a multi-dimensional interaction system centered around a massive LED display complemented by three interactive kiosks. Each kiosk featured custom-designed acrylic placards representing different industry applications of JioBrain. The visitors could walk up to a kiosk and place an industry-specific placard on the designated area. It would then use NFC to trigger a sequence of animations. The kiosk display illuminated with relevant animations while synchronized content appeared on the main LED screen; custom-developed 2D and 3D animations explained each use case, highlighting problem statements and JioBrain's innovative solutions.

Next, for Jio's rural technology initiative, we created an interactive wall that made use of projection mapping while being touch-sensitive. The experience focused on four transformative pillars: Smart Agriculture, Smart Healthcare, Smart Education, and Smart Panchayat. Visitors could touch different areas of the village, triggering animations that demonstrated how 5G technology integrates into rural settings while preserving cultural authenticity. This approach made abstract technological concepts tangible and relatable. The interactive exhibition was a success as it resulted in over 170,000 global visitors.

In conclusion, interactive solutions in exhibitions allow customers to engage with a brand's campaign in a meaningful manner instead of passively receiving information through a presentation. These solutions use different kinds of technologies like touchscreens, AR, VR, projection mapping, and more. This leads to higher brand recall and the audience not only understanding the brand's products or services but also having fun in the process.

FAQ

Interactive Exhibition Solutions can be used in educational institutions, museums, experience centers, retail environments, government initiatives, and public awareness campaigns.

Yes. Most interactive exhibition solutions are custom-made and allow brands to decide the type of content, interfaces, languages, interaction methods, and technology that need to be used. They can even factor in the exhibition's location, audience, and objectives to further customize the interactive solution.

Interactive exhibitions improve visitor engagement by letting the customers or audience actively interact with the content instead of passively viewing images or scanning through textual information.
