How Interactive Gamified Brand Activations Make For Memorable Experiences

When it comes to marketing campaigns or exhibitions, the main thing an audience looks for is how a brand can keep them entertained. But for brands, as important as it is for their customers to have fun, they still need to ensure that they convey the information about their products or services that they are looking to advertise. Back in the day, simple video advertisements would do the trick, but since everyone has easy access to smartphones and a plethora of short-form content, these video ads are no longer enough. This is why gamified brand activations are becoming the new go-to for businesses.

What are Gamified Brand Activations?

Gamified brand activations are interactive campaigns that make use of different kinds of game mechanics like challenges, rewards, leaderboards, quizzes, and more to promote a brand's products or services. The reason such game elements are used is that they incentivize the audience to "play", as such experiences often offer different kinds of rewards for completing the goal-oriented objectives. This not only makes the campaigns fun but also helps the audience learn more about what the brand is offering.

For additional immersion, brands usually go for interactive brand activations. What separates the two is that the latter uses interactive technology. For example, a regular gamified brand activation could install a spin-the-wheel, or do a live quiz where the audience has to answer the host. This requires limited technology. However, an interactive gamified activation offers experiences that make use of AR, VR, touchscreen displays, or consoles, where the user actually gets to play different games while also learning more about the brand.

What Technologies do Interactive Gamified Brand Activations Use?

AR and VR Game Experiences

Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are two technologies that are both excellent for creating gamified brand activations. With AR, brands can create digital content and bring it to the real world by using smartphones or AR-enabled smart glasses. The best part is that there are different types of AR; as such, one brand could create a campaign that makes use of web-based AR while another uses app-based AR. Thus, depending on the size of the audience that they are expecting, they can use the AR type that works best for them.

VR is also an excellent option that brands can use to keep the audience engaged, especially when immersion is their main priority. With VR, brands get to virtually take their audience to another dimension or space. Such solutions are typically better suited for smaller audiences.

Motion and Gesture Capturing Installations

Another effective solution that brands could use for their gamified activations is to use motion tracking or gesture capturing installations. As the name suggests, these installations track a player's movements and capture different gestures, such as when they swipe, wave, point, make different hand signs, and more. The player can perform instructed actions to navigate through content, trigger specific animations, or even hit virtual targets. These installations work best for events and exhibitions, where the brands want to give the audience a hands-free experience.

Interactive Touchscreens

Touchscreens are some of the most accessible and easy-to-set-up solutions brands could use to gamify experiences. Since almost everyone uses a smartphone today, they don't require the audience to be given tutorials. All a brand needs to do is make a custom game or software about the product or service that they are trying to promote.

How Our Clients Used Interactive Gamified Brand Activations

Interactive AI avatar experience with voice-based user engagement at an HDFC Securities activation

HDFC - AI-Powered MetaHuman Avatar (Fintech)

HDFC Securities launched the Scam 2025 initiative to increase awareness about financial scams and get the audience better prepared for situations that allow them to combat getting scammed. To emphasize just how conniving and creative scammers are getting, they asked us to create an interactive gamified experience where the scammer would try to extract a user's personal or sensitive information while they had to avoid giving it to them. The main attraction of this activation was the hyper-realistic MetaHuman avatar of actor Manoj Pahwa, which would play the role of the scammer.

To start the game, a person has to interact with the avatar, after which it would start asking questions to scam the player live. To further gamify the experience, simply saying "no" wasn't enough. The player also had to keep the scammer engaged to earn points. The game worked by showing a live on-screen aggression meter that tracked the user's performance throughout the session. The score increased when users deflected, ignored requests, or wasted the scammer's time with creative responses and decreased when they provided any correct or fake information. The player's objective was to push the aggression meter past the 75% threshold before the timer ran out.

To make the game work, we used a push-to-talk microphone for the MetaHuman. It would then capture a user's speech, convert it to text, and have the AI process it and generate a response that would try to scam the user while making sense in the context of the conversation. The big highlight of this AI-powered avatar was how the responses were animated onto the MetaHuman within sub-500ms latency using an RTX 5090 pipeline.

The MetaHuman Avatar game experience was successful and resulted in:

  • 2,000+ total interactions across 3 days.
  • 100% of the sessions ended with a digital CTA.

Amazon - Interactive 3-Layer Game (Events and Exhibitions)

Amazon interactive gamified delivery experience using a large digital display

Amazon, for its Smbhav 2025, wanted a gamified activation to showcase how their freight, cargo, and delivery services worked. They wanted us to make a 3-layer game, where each layer would be a stage that taught the audience about one of the three processes. Additionally, the game also had to ensure that the players had fun in the process. Here is what each layer aimed to highlight:

  • Layer 1 - Flight (Air): The player controls a plane that is carrying the parcel. Here, power-ups give you points, while clouds and other hazards deduct points.
  • Layer 2 - Truck (Transit): In this level, the player drives a truck to collect parcels falling from the sky, and every collected parcel gives them 1 point.
  • Layer 3 - Maze (Final delivery): Finally, the player controls a delivery partner that has to deliver the parcel to the recipient's house.

The gamified experience was successful at both keeping things fun while also ensuring that the customers understood the delivery process; it resulted in:

  • Over 250 unique play sessions.
  • The game had a high completion rate.
  • Each session lasted 2-3 minutes, allowing for high rotation and repeated play sessions.

To sum it up, brands use gamified activations because such campaigns are not only immersive but also engaging, as they allow the audience to interact with their products or services by using different kinds of game mechanics. These could be something simple like quizzes or challenges, or brands could opt for interactive gamified activations that make use of different technologies like AR, VR, touchscreen displays, and more to improve the player's experience even more.

But when it comes to setting up such experiences or campaigns, it is important for a brand to hire an agency or develop the solution in-house in a way that completely understands their products or services. This ensures that the final activation that is created delivers a fun experience to the audience while also getting across the message or information that is important for the customer to know about the brand or what it is offering. This is where Ink In Caps comes in; we are a MarTech agency that has been providing all kinds of gamified activations and interactive tech solutions to brands that want to create experiential campaigns. Book a demo now, and our team of experts will contact you so that together we can create a gamified experience that hasn't been seen before.
