How Brands Use Interactive Technology To Create Memorable Product Launch Activations

When a brand launches a new product, it has several factors to consider, from research and development to create a product the audience needs, to marketing to ensure people discover it. A good product is useless if the user doesn't even know it exists; this becomes an extra challenge for newer brands, as they also have to compete with existing brands that already have a loyal customer base. This is why several upcoming and veteran brands are starting to use interactive technology for their product launch activations.

What are Technology-Based Product Launch Activations?

Technology-based product launch activations are brand campaigns that use interactive technology to create engaging experiences for the products that a brand is launching. When only basic presentations are used, the product launch can get boring, as people may not be interested in learning more about what the brand is revealing. However, when interactive technology is used for such activations, the audience is generally more actively involved. This is because they can engage with the products thus creating more curiosity and creating an interest which makes them want to learn more about the product.

Most technology-based product launch activations typically use:

Why are Brands Going for Interactive Technology-Based Product Launch Activations?

Increases User Engagement

One of the main reasons a brand uses interactive technology for their product launch activation is to increase user engagement. When traditional campaigns are used to unveil a product or reveal a service, the communication is often one-way. What this means is that the brand will do a presentation or play a video that explains everything about their product, including information about what it is, its features, how to use it, and more.

However, when product launch activations are interactive, this becomes a two-way communication. Thus, the user has to actively engage with the different touchpoints or activities at the activation. As such, the information isn't received passively, and the more the user interacts, the more they learn about the product. This increases user engagement as it creates a memorable experience.

Improves Product Understanding

When the user is more engaged with the product activation, they are more likely to understand what the product is about. This point is tied to the above advantage, as better engagement means they aren't mindlessly consuming the information. They are virtually trying out the different features of the product, or if it is a gamified activation, they learn more about the product and its features through various minigames. Thus, when a user has a complete understanding of the product, it leads to better sales, as they are convinced that they aren't doing any purchase on a whim, and are buying something that they actually need.

Brands Get User Behavior Data

Using interactive technology allows brands to integrate systems into their activation campaigns that can collect and analyze user behaviour data. This lets them analyze things like how long a user interacted with a certain feature of the product, the different features that they interacted with, the features they missed, whether the user was able to understand the feature and interact with it as intended, and more. All of this gives the brand useful information both about their product and the things their audience is interested in. They can then use this data to make changes to their activation, or add or remove certain features from their existing product, or update their future products to meet the preferences of what the users actually want.

Gives Organic Social Media Growth

Another underappreciated but useful advantage of using interactive technology for product launch activations is that it creates an organic buzz on social media. Thus, when a campaign uses technology that hasn't been used before or used in a manner that makes it stand out from the rest, people post it online. This way, a brand doesn't have to advertise its campaign, and instead people find out about it from each other. Thus, people learn about the brand through word-of-mouth and are more inclined to look it up. This leads to better brand recall and organic growth.

How Our Client Used Interactive Technology for their Product Launch Activation

IoT-enabled automotive experience showcasing the Brezza Turbo Boosterjet engine

Maruti Suzuki Brezza 2026

For the launch of Brezza 2026, Maruti Suzuki wanted their audience to experience their brand new 1.0L Turbo Boosterjet engine and music surround sound system. The goal was to use interactive technology in a way that let their product launch activation show the full power of these systems to their customers. This is why Maruti Suzuki and Communique Marketing partnered with Ink In Caps to create two zones that not only let their audience understand these features but also engage with and enjoy them.

  • Zone 1 - Turbo Boosterjet Engine: Here, the Brezza 2026 was placed on a 6m x 6m LED floor surrounded by two 6m x 3m LED walls on each side. Beside the car was an IoT-integrated Accelerator Pedal, which the audience could interact with. The user had to step on the pedal to simulate accelerating the car. What made this zone work and stand out was the IoT system. The pressure on the pedal dictated the fan's speed, which changed how the audience felt the wind on their face. Additionally, it also changed the wind-like effects on the L-shaped LED displays and the floor. Thus, the harder they pushed the pedal, the faster the effects would pass by, and the cityscape and skylines would fade back, giving the effect of driving the car quickly.
  • Zone 2 - Music System: To highlight the Brezza 2026's updated music system, Maruti Suzuki gave us 9 songs. We developed custom software using Unity that had 4 Visualizer options and could be controlled via an iPad, which was connected to the car through Bluetooth, and had 16 touchpoints. The music was played from the car's speaker. The main highlight of this zone was that the visualizers were synced with the car's music system and the two LED displays behind the car. Thus, the audience got to play with visualizers while changing the songs to get something that met their preferences.

This product launch activation was a success and resulted in:

  • 100% zero downtime.
  • Both Zones were enjoyed by over 200 people within 4 hours.
  • Over 250 media partners and influencers covered the event.

In conclusion, interactive technology-based product launch activations are campaigns that brands run to give their customers a glimpse into their upcoming products. They let them interact with and learn more about the product while also enjoying the experience. These activations are beneficial for the brands because they increase user engagement, improve their understanding of the products, help them learn more about user behavior, and also organically grow their socials.
