How Brands Use Interactive Display Walls To Make Immersive Experiences

In an attention-deficit world, brands are always looking for new and creative ways to create experiences that don't just bring more eyes to their campaigns but also raise curiosity about their products or services. For the longest time, using large display screens that play video advertisements has been enough. However, today's audience wants something more; they are looking for experiences that they can actually engage with. This is why brands have started to use interactive display walls to make their experiential campaigns immersive.

What are Interactive Display Walls?

Interactive display walls are large surfaces that the audience can interact with, as such, they can respond to different types of user inputs like touch, motion and gestures, or movements. This is what also separates them from standard video walls. In a video wall, as the name suggests, a pre-recorded or pre-rendered video plays on loop. However, an interactive display wall allows the audience to engage with the content that is being presented, thus creating an immersive and dynamic experience.

There are several different kinds of interactive display walls; however, most of them typically make use of the following technologies: single or multiple screens to display the content, different kinds of sensors to capture motions, gestures, movements, or touches, and some type of interface or software to take the user's inputs and perform the necessary actions.

Different Types of Interactive Display Walls

LiDAR Gesture Tracking Displays

LiDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging; as such, LiDAR gesture tracking displays track movement information across a space. These displays are useful in experiences that prioritise privacy, as many displays that track hand gestures or facial movements use cameras. This introduces privacy concerns as the camera footage could be misused. However, with LiDAR gesture tracking displays, businesses get to offer more privacy to the audience.

LiDAR displays make use of laser pulses, which makes it easy for systems to understand if a person is positioned somewhere or if they have moved into a designated area. This technology is compatible with digital displays; as such, when the two are used together, it allows for experiences where users get to interact with content using gestures and hand movements instead of touching a screen.

Kinetic LED Installations

A Kinetic LED installation is usually a large LED wall that is a collection of screens. What makes this installation unique is that each of these screens can mechanically move, such as rotating or rising. The type of content that will be showcased at the event or exhibition decides how each screen or tile moves. What makes these installations so attractive is that, unlike conventional LED walls, Kinetic displays add a physical layer and tangibility to the experience, which improves the visual storytelling.

When brands use a Kinetic LED installation they even get to control the wall's movement by synchronizing or coordinating it with the content like music or lighting. They can even be programmed to react based on the audience's reactions at a live event. These installations are best used for product launches, experiential marketing campaigns, entertainment venues, and large-scale brand activations.

Jio Star at Waves 2025 - Kinetic LED Wall

For the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, Jio Star wanted to design and set up interactive immersive installations. The goal was to highlight how Indian media shapes Indian culture, showcase Jio's broadcasting strength, Star Sports' regional reach, and have impactful stories such as the journey of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) and the celebration of Ram Navami.

We offered several solutions each to address the different objectives, such as an infinite curved LED Anamorphic wall, a holographic installation, a gesture-based table, and a C-shaped LED Wall. However, one of the main highlights here was the Kinetic LED Wall. This dynamic screen displayed Jio Hotstar's and its subsidiary channels' corporate audio-visual and brand narratives in independently moving LED tiles.

The event was a huge success and resulted in:

JioBrain at India Mobile Congress - Interactive LED Display

India Mobile Congress is Asia's largest digital technology and telecommunications forum, and for its 2024 edition. Reliance Jio partnered with Ink In Caps to create an interactive experience to present their groundbreaking AI model, JioBrain, and their 5G Intelligent Village initiative.

The solution we offered for JioBrain was an interactive LED Display. We designed a multi-dimensional interaction system centered around a massive LED display that used three interactive kiosks. Each kiosk featured custom-designed acrylic placards representing different industry applications of JioBrain. The visitors could walk up to a kiosk and place an industry-specific placard on the designated area. It would then use NFC to trigger a sequence of animations. The kiosk display illuminated with relevant animations while synchronized content appeared on the main LED screen; custom-developed 2D and 3D animations explained each use case, highlighting problem statements and JioBrain's innovative solutions. The exhibition resulted in more than 170,000 global visitors.

To sum it up, interactive display walls are large surfaces that brands use for providing an interactive and engaging experience to their customers. Instead of playing videos on a loop, these walls allow the audience to interact with the event or exhibition, letting them get a better idea of the product or service that the business is trying to promote. These walls are of different types, like LiDAR, which makes use of light to detect movements; motion and gesture sensing walls that perform actions based on the input captured by users' gestures; and Kinetic LED walls that have multiple display screens that can rise or rotate reacting to the content.

As immersive as interactive display walls are, they can be rather tricky to set up as they involve different kinds of hardware while also having to create and sync content that is tailor-made for such walls. This is why brands should work with reputable agencies that have years of experience in setting up interactive display walls. This is where Ink In Caps comes in; we are a MarTech agency that has proven experience, as seen in the above case studies, in delivering interactive display wall solutions to brands that actually give them the desired results.
