AMAZON
Chatbot with programmable IoT lights, interactive isometric city
Amazon has pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, a goal that shows its commitment to sustainability. To further this mission, the company has heavily invested in carbon-free clean energy solutions. The Sustainability 2024 event was designed not only to raise awareness about the harmful effects of carbon emissions but also to highlight Amazon's efforts to reduce its environmental impact. The event served as a platform to inform investors and partner companies about these initiatives. In collaboration with Communique marketing solutions, Ink In Caps created an engaging and interactive experience to effectively convey this message interactively and memorably.

Raised awareness to reduce carbon footprint and their goal to achieve net zero carbon emissions.
For Sustainability 2024, Amazon’s primary objective was to raise awareness about its sustainability initiatives and showcase the measures it has implemented to reduce its global carbon footprint. These include the development of small modular reactors and the deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) in India, such as EV trucks, to reduce emissions.
The centrepiece of our zone was screens hanging from sustainability trees designed to engage attendees using a chatbot, with questions about sustainability, gauge their awareness, and enquire about their companies’ green initiatives. Attendees were encouraged to take a sustainability pledge, which was displayed on a 24-inch screen with programmable LED effects resembling the Tree of Souls from the movie Avatar. The experience relied on a wireless and synchronised setup, ensuring smooth communication between devices. This included IoT-enabled lights and a centralised server handling real-time interactions across all devices. Another element in this zone was two 55-inch screens displaying an isometric cityscape teeming with EVs such as three-wheelers, bikes, and trucks moving in a seamless loop. The multi-touch feature allowed multiple users to interact simultaneously. Tapping on any moving element revealed Amazon’s sustainability efforts in that area. Allowing visitors to learn in a fun and interactive way.
The execution of our Sustainability 2024 zone is a case study of its own. A personalised handling server operated offline, enabling real-time software systems to run six devices simultaneously. Custom software allowed simultaneous control, including recentring, re-engaging, and restarting the devices as needed. Raspberry Pis and tablets were connected to a micro-app, which communicated with the workstation. Each time an attendee took a pledge, the system triggered the IoT lights and screen animations, creating an engaging and cohesive experience. The programmable LED display created visually stunning effects, amplifying the emotional impact of the pledges and enhancing the overall experience.
Even though the zone was successful, it wasn't void of challenges. Our first challenge was the fact that we had only 2 hours to complete a set-up meant to take 5 hours. With a bit of perseverance and elbow grease, we got that done, but the second was making the zone look good, and the obstacle to that was the 6 Raspberry Pis and other equipment lying around, so we creatively concealed them behind leaves and other cut-outs to make it look beautiful. The isometric city animation initially wasn’t seamlessly looped, a problem that was addressed by the in-house team. These obstacles were overcome through innovative problem-solving and teamwork, ensuring the event’s objectives were met. The production of this zone was a complicated process, but we overcame it nonetheless.
The Sustainability 2024 event was a resounding success, attracting over 1,500 attendees. The chatbot inspired numerous green pledges, while the interactive 3D animations left a lasting impression. Despite tight deadlines and technical hurdles, our zone effectively showcased Amazon’s transformative vision, reinforcing its leadership in sustainability and positively impacting all who attended.
